In 2006, my husband and I visited Napa and toured the wine country, and that’s when my interest in wine and food turned into a passion. Our trip to Paris in 2008 reinforced my fascination.
I’ve had some formal training and done some writing about wine/food—I’d like to get my sommelier certification and go to culinary school, just for fun. Would I consider it as a career? Probably, but that remains to be seen.
I’ve worked for 18 years as a writer/ manager/trainer/marketer, and I think the most important thing I’ve learned is you can motivate people to do just about anything if you can create a common vision.
We are all sales people. We all have a product to sell, even if it’s simply ourselves. The best way to sell anything is to believe whole-heartedly in its value, and to inspire others to embrace that value.
But first, you must believe. Like Robert Louis Stevenson, I believe that “Wine is bottled poetry.” When used in moderation and consumed with appreciation, wine furnishes great enjoyment and enhances any occasion. For me, it’s an easy sell.
I live in Carrollton, Texas with my husband, two daughters, and three cats. In addition to wine and food, I enjoy travel, photography, independent film, and reading. I’m also an amateur musician and active volunteer in a number of charities and social service organizations. To contact me, email me at rebecca@rebeccamarmaduke.com.
